Dr. Andres Nieto

 

Dr. Andres Nieto is a seasoned internist with over 14 years of experience in medical research and practice. Throughout his career, he has worked with prestigious institutions such as Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, as well as the US military and NATO. His expertise spans a wide range of medical settings, with a strong focus on providing exceptional patient care, leading cross-functional teams, and managing medical, administrative, and operational functions.

 

Dr. Nieto’s medical career has been characterised by his ability to adapt quickly to various environments and challenges. His current role as an internist with Doctor On Demand, which he has held since 2016, allows him to bring his extensive experience to a telehealth platform, providing convenient medical support to patients remotely. Before this, he served as a Women’s Health Provider at the Washington DC VA, where he delivered care to a diverse demographic of women, honing his skills in both clinical and leadership capacities.

 

From 2010 to 2014, Dr. Nieto served as a staff internist at the renowned Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. During this time, he demonstrated his leadership and medical expertise by overseeing a Med-Home team of multiple healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and licensed practical nurses. His work focused on ensuring adherence to the best medical practices, meeting high-quality standards, and improving team productivity. His leadership abilities also led to his role as the director of the IDC Program at Walter Reed, where he coordinated efforts to provide top-tier healthcare to military personnel.

 

In addition to his work at Walter Reed, Dr. Nieto has a wealth of international experience. As the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Role 1 Medical at HQISAF in Kabul, Afghanistan, he worked in a high-pressure environment, providing emergency and routine medical care to over 1,800 ISAF personnel. He not only ensured that personnel received comprehensive wellness and preventive care, but also worked in challenging and hostile environments to deliver critical supplies and support. His work included training NATO allies in trauma and basic life support (BLS) care, underscoring his commitment to both patient care and global collaboration.

 

Dr. Nieto’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He earned his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine in 2006, after completing a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Boston College. He also holds a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) from The Fletcher School at Tufts University, which focused on international law and emerging infectious diseases. This multidisciplinary background has allowed Dr. Nieto to approach medicine with a unique global perspective, incorporating international policy and public health considerations into his practice.

 

Dr. Nieto’s distinguished career has been recognised with numerous honours, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal from the US Army/NATO ISAF in 2010. He is fluent in Spanish and remains dedicated to advancing medical care through his ongoing work and contributions to the field.
