Mr. Apostolos Stamatiadis is a highly respected colorectal surgeon and the founder of the Athens Colorectal Laboratory, a centre of excellence dedicated to diagnosing and treating anorectal diseases. Born in Istanbul in 1958, he graduated with distinction from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1982. Over the years, he has built an extensive career, blending clinical practice with research and teaching.
Mr. Stamatiadis has specialised in colorectal surgery since completing his general surgery training at the 1st Propaedeutic Surgical Clinic of the University of Athens under the mentorship of Professor Vas. Golematis. His postgraduate training took him to leading European institutions, including the Centre de la Chirurgie Digestive in Paris and the Surgical Clinics of Lund University and Heidelberg University.
In 1995, he established the Athens Colorectal Laboratory, which offers high-quality healthcare services focusing on the latest advancements in anorectal disease management. His clinic is equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic tools, such as 3D endoanal ultrasound and anal manometry, allowing for precise diagnosis and treatment of functional diseases of the anorectal canal. Mr. Stamatiadis is also deeply committed to avoiding unnecessary surgical interventions whenever possible, favouring minimally invasive techniques.
A significant area of his recent work focuses on the effects of anal HPV infection, particularly in the early detection and prevention of High-Grade Anal Intraepithelial Neoplasia (HGAIN) and anal cancer. His dedication to this field has led him to participate in specialised training courses, including ASCCP’s Colposcopy and High-Resolution Anoscopy courses in the USA.
Mr. Stamatiadis is an accomplished academic with numerous publications and presentations in Greek and international forums. He is fluent in English, French, German, and Turkish, allowing him to connect with a diverse range of patients and colleagues worldwide.
