Dr. Demetris Nicolaides

Dr. Demetris Nicolaides is a highly experienced General Practitioner who has dedicated his career to providing comprehensive medical care, with a special focus on chronic pain management. Born and raised in Limassol, Cyprus, Dr. Nicolaides pursued his medical education at Semmelweis University of Medicine in Budapest, Hungary. Upon completing his studies, he worked at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre in Nicosia before relocating to the United Kingdom, where he spent 17 years gaining extensive experience in a wide range of medical specialties.

In the UK, Dr. Nicolaides trained in General Medicine, gaining valuable expertise in oncology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, dementia and stroke care, intensive care, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, and other areas. His broad training enabled him to work across a variety of medical fields, giving him a holistic understanding of patient care. Dr. Nicolaides completed his training in General Medicine and successfully passed the MRCGP exam, becoming a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP), which solidified his standing in the medical community.

Dr. Nicolaides’ career in the UK also saw him work as a General Practitioner partner in a busy training medical practice, where he was responsible for caring for 13,500 patients. During this time, he also took on the role of a clinical educator, training both general practitioners and 5th-year medical students. As the clinical lead in palliative care, Dr. Nicolaides was involved in providing care for patients in the final stages of illness, offering support to both patients and their families during difficult times.

A particular area of interest for Dr. Nicolaides is chronic pain management. He spent 11 years as part of a multidisciplinary team in a secondary care setting at a teaching hospital in Durham, where he collaborated with neurosurgeons, rheumatologists, anaesthesiologists, physiotherapists, pain specialists, nurses, occupational therapists, and clinical psychologists. This team-based approach allowed Dr. Nicolaides to develop a deep understanding of pain management and its complex nature.

After returning to his hometown of Limassol, Cyprus, Dr. Nicolaides opened his own surgery, offering primary care services to patients aged 15 and above. As a personal doctor, he is committed to treating and preventing chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
