Dr. George Mylonas is a distinguished Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in Robotics and Technology in Cancer at Imperial College London. He is also the Director of the Human-centred Automation, Robotics and Monitoring in Surgery (HARMS) lab at The Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery. With a career spanning over two decades, Dr. Mylonas has made significant contributions to the field of surgical robotics and medical technology, particularly in the areas of medical imaging, robotic surgery, and cancer treatment.

 

Dr. Mylonas began his academic journey at the University of Sussex, where he completed a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics. He further pursued his MSc in Computing Science at Imperial College London before earning a PhD in Medical Imaging and Surgical Robotics from the same institution. His extensive education laid the foundation for his groundbreaking research and work in robotic surgery, an area in which he has become a leading expert.

 

In his current role at Imperial College London, Dr. Mylonas combines his academic responsibilities with his leadership role in the HARMS lab, where he focuses on integrating automation and robotics in surgical procedures. One of his most notable research contributions includes the development of a perceptually docked control environment for multiple microbots, which has shown to improve the accuracy and efficiency of complex medical procedures.

 

Beyond his academic and research roles, Dr. Mylonas is a key figure in the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (EAES), where he serves on the Technology Committee. He also works as a research consultant with IC Consultants Ltd, further contributing to the development of cutting-edge technologies in medical practice.
