Dr. Stratos V. Gotzaridis is a highly regarded Vitreoretinal Specialist and the founder and head of the My Retina Athens Eye Center, located in Athens, Greece. Born in Komotini, Greece, in 1962, Dr. Gotzaridis has built an esteemed career through his extensive education, training, and experience in the field of ophthalmology. He graduated from the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece before completing his military service. Following this, he trained in ophthalmology at the AHEPA University Hospital in Thessaloniki, where he laid the foundation for his distinguished career.

 

Dr. Gotzaridis’s thirst for knowledge and expertise led him to pursue further specialised training through a series of prestigious fellowships. From 1997 to 1998, he undertook a one-year funded fellowship in Uveitis and Inflammatory Diseases under Mr. William Ayliffe at Croydon University Hospital in London. This was followed by a year-long fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery with Mr. Chris Canning and Mr. Andy Luff at Southampton University Hospital in 1998-1999. His dedication to mastering vitreoretinal surgery led him to Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where he completed a one-year funded fellowship from 1999 to 2000 under the guidance of Mr. Bob Cooling and Mr. Zdenek Gregor.

 

Further advancing his expertise, Dr. Gotzaridis received a fellowship supported by the IACOCCA Foundation and Harvard Medical School, which enabled him to work with the renowned Prof. Donald D’Amico at the Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, USA, from 2000 to 2001. During this fellowship, he contributed to research projects such as Optic Disc Surgery for Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) and the use of Erbium YAG laser with biological dyes for ablation of the internal limiting membrane (ILM).

 

In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Gotzaridis is a professor at the European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology (ESASO), sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of ophthalmologists. His areas of special interest include the management of epiretinal membranes, preretinal and subretinal membranes, and the pathology and management of re-retinal detachments. He is also known for his expertise in managing dislocated or subluxated intraocular lenses (IOLs), as well as the treatment of macular holes, with or without retinal detachment, and vitreomacular schisis, particularly in high myopia cases.

 

At the My Retina Athens Eye Center, Dr. Gotzaridis leads a comprehensive therapeutic and diagnostic service for patients dealing with a range of retinal and vitreous conditions. His reputation for providing the highest level of care and his commitment to advancing the field of ophthalmology have made him a highly respected figure in both Greece and internationally.
